The 1st International Conference on Auditing and Artificial Intelligence invites scholars, practitioners, and experts in artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, accounting information systems, accounting, and auditing, from across the globe to share and exchange their ideas on advancing the auditing profession through the use of AI. Scholars worldwide are invited to contribute original academic research that explores the dynamic interplay between AI technologies and auditing (methodologies). Thomas Berger Director Group Audit, Risk & Control - TUI AG & President of the German IIA

As Director Internal Audit, Risk & Control of TUI Group in Hannover, Thomas Berger is responsible for the Internal Audit Function, the Enterprise Risk Management, and the Finance Controls. Since 2021, he serves as the Speaker of the Board of the German Chapter of the IIA, the DIIR.

Thomas has a financial background. He holds a Degree in Economics from University of Marburg and has served as a German Public Auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers for over 16 years.

He firmly believes that the current era of multiple transformations necessitates an Internal Audit function, which can enhance stakeholder confidence.

Larry Herzog Butler - Delivery Hero SE & Board of Directors Global IIA

Larry Herzog Butler is the 2023–24 Director-Audit Committee (AC) Chair on the Global Board of Directors of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and is the Global Head of Internal Audit for Delivery Hero SE, headquartered in Berlin, Germany.

Larry has held various leadership roles over the past decade with The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). He has served as President and board member of The IIA Los Angeles Chapter and has been a member of The IIA’s Global Professional Development Committee and Global Guidance Council. 

Larry has over 25 years of audit, assurance, and advisory experience. As the Global Head of Internal Audit for Delivery Hero SE, his passion and focus is to develop a diverse, international internal audit team that can leverage and integrate technology in each phase of the internal audit process.

Larry earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from North Carolina State University. He is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and holds certifications in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) and Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC).

Marco Dubanowski, Chief Audit Executive, Senior Vice President Group Audit & Group Investigations - Deutsche Telekom AG

Marco Dubanowski, is as Chief Audit Executive bearing responsibilities for Group Audit at Deutsche Telekom (DT). In this role he is belonging to the Business Leader Team of DT.During the last years, he held several professional-, executive- and senior executive positions at T-Systems International GmbH.

Most recently, Marco Dubanowski was leading T-Systems’ Global Delivery Centres with more than 13.000 people across multiple locations worldwide.In addition to that, he was acting as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of IT Services Hungary Kft.Before Dubanowski joined T-Systems and Deutsche Telekom AG, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM Business Consulting Services.

Dubanowski has a Diploma in Business Information Systems from University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern and received his Master of Business Administration Degree from Steinbeis University Berlin.

Jan Gruene, Director & Head of Digital Internal Audit & Data Intelligence - Deloitte Germany

Jan Grüne has more than 15 years’ experience in evaluating and optimizing corporate governance systems and business processes with a specific focus on Internal Control and Internal Audit. He advises on strategy, transformation and digitization of Internal Audit functions. In this area, he designs and implements solutions around data analytics, and automation, and process visualization. He optimizes, streamlines and automates internal controls, business processes and audit activities. Jan also has a strong focus on integrating and aligning corporate governance functions and their activities towards new, technology-driven risks.

Professor Annette Köhler, Mercator School of Management - University of Duisburg-Essen

Prof. Köhler holds a chair of Accounting and Auditing at the Mercator School of Management, University of Duisburg-Essen.

She serves as Audit Committee Chair of various listed companies in Germany and Switzerland and is a member of the Working Group “External and Internal Corporate Control” of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft e.V. and of the Scientific Committee of the European Auditing Research Network.

Prof. Köhler is also a member of the Technical Council of the German Auditor Oversight Authority. From 2012 to 2017, she was a member of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB).

Alexander Miras Vice President Corporate Audit - E.ON SE

Alexander Miras is the Vice President of Corporate Audit at E.ON SE, overseeing Compliance Investigations, Audit Governance, and Audit Technology. He also serves as the Chief Governance Officer and a board member at Coromatic AB, a subsidiary of E.ON that provides energy solutions. With over 20 years of auditing expertise, Alexander is focused on enhancing audit efficiency and impact through the development of automated audit processes, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

Educated as an industrial engineer, Alexander has a strong foundation in technical and managerial aspects of business operations. He is currently enhancing his skills by attending courses at INSEAD, focusing on AI use cases in the audit business. His aim is to integrate cutting-edge AI technologies to transform traditional audit methods, boosting analytical capabilities and operational effectiveness.

Professor Meike Ramon, PhD, Applied Face Cognition Lab - University of Lausanne

Professor Meike Ramon is a Swiss National Science Foundation PRIMA (Promoting Women in Academia) Fellow. She founded and leads the Applied Face Cognition Lab and directs the Cognitive and Affective Regulation Laboratory at the University of Lausanne.

After studying at the Ruhr-University in Bochum (DE), funded by Belgian National Science Foundation she received a PhD from the Université catholique de Louvain (BE), and was a Visiting Postdoctoral at the University of Glasgow (UK). Meike’s research focus is on Cognitive Neuroscience and its translation into application and policy. She studies face recognition, the neurofunctional basis of differences in this ability, and its implications for society - from face-blindness to so-called Super-Recognizers.

As a Scientific Advisor for the Berlin Police, Meike co-developed the Berlin Test for Super-Recognizer Identification (beSure®), a bespoke tool involving authentic police material.

Hendrik Reese, Partner & Responsible AI Lead - PwC Germany

Hendrik Reese is Partner at PwC in Germany and Co-Leader for Trustworthy and Responsible AI at EMEA Level. He supports clients in all industries operationalizing robust, resilient, secure and reliable AI use cases in sensitive environments. In addition, Hendrik is supporting European regulators in shaping regulations and standards for trustworthy AI – i.e. the EU AI Act and related requests and initiatives for harmonized standards, regulatory sandboxes and risk management procedures. He is business driver and co-founder for PwC’s Joint Venture CertifAI – the worldwide’s first TIC company for AI based physical products.

Professor Miklos A. Vasarhelyi - Rutgers University

Professor Miklos A. Vasarhelyi is the KPMG Distinguished Professor of Accounting Information Systems and serves as Director of the Rutgers Accounting Research Center (RARC) & Continuous Auditing & Reporting Lab (CAR Lab).

He is credited with developing the original continuous audit application and is the leading researcher in this field. At Rutgers Business School, Professor Vasarhelyi heads the Continuous Auditing and Reporting Laboratory, which works on projects for such leading companies as Siemens, KPMG, Procter & Gamble, AICPA, CA Technologies and Brazil’s Itau-Unibanco. Also, he leads the RADAR (Rutgers AICPA Data Analytics Research Initiative) project supported by the 8 leading CPA firms, AICPA, and CPA Canada.Vasarhelyi, who received his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from UCLA, has published more than 200 journal articles, 20 books, and directed over 40 Ph.D. theses. He is the editor of the Artificial Intelligence in Accounting and Auditing series and the Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting.

The professor also has taught executive programs to many large international organizations, including GE, J&J, Eli Lilly, Baxter, ADL, Volvo, Siemens, Chase Bank, and AT&T.

He received his MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in economics and electrical engineering from the State University of Guanabara and the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. He taught at USC, Columbia and worked at the Bell Laboratories.

Professor Vasarhelyi was chosen as the Outstanding Accounting Educator by the AAA in 2015 and received ISACA’s Wasserman Award among many distinctions.

Professor David A. Wood - Brigham Young University

Professor David A. Wood is passionate about understanding new technologies and implementing them into the curriculum of Brigham Young University, where he works as the Glenn D. Ardis professor of accounting. Prof. Wood received his Ph.D. at Indiana University and his BS and MAcc degrees at Brigham Young University. At BYU, David teaches accounting data analytics and accounting information systems.

David has published over 150 articles in a combination of respected academic and practitioner journals, monographs, books, and cases. His research has won multiple best paper awards. David is a current or past editor at five journals and editorial board member for nine journals. He works with the EY ARC to develop curriculum that is provided for free to academics throughout the world (see

https://eyarc.site/). He is also a coauthor on the market-leading AIS textbook, Accounting Information Systems by Romney, Steinbart, Summers, and Wood and codeveloper of the ttps://www.byuaccounting.net/ and https://www.techhub.training websites.
